About

I am Dinh Thi Hao, Director of Da Bac Social Enterprise CBT: desire to be a “bridge” for community tourism.

I am one of the important factors creating change for the stilt houses on Da River Lake with the direction of developing green, sustainable community tourism. After more than 10 years of working and building community tourism destinations in Da Bac district, I concluded that preserving and promoting the national cultural identity and solidarity of the community is the basis for community tourism development.

Da Bac CBT Social Enterprise
Since Da Bac CBT came into operation, it has attracted over 11,000 visitors (nearly 70% are international visitors), created jobs & income (nearly 8.8 billion VND) for 195 members of 153 households belonging to 38 groups group of 04 CBT points. In addition to local and local recognition, Da Bac CBT has received a number of certificates of merit & awards:
1. Da Bia village received the ASEAN Community Tourism Award in 2019 – 2021 (one of 03 units in Vietnam to receive the ASEAN CBT category)
2. October 2019: Received the Bronze Swallow Award – Green Swallow Program: Honoring businesses for sustainable development andsocial impact – held by VCCI, VUSTA, UNDP, CSIP.
3. In 2019 & 2020 both received Imap Choice certification – iMap Choice 2020 – Event honoring businesses creating social impact 2020 organized by Center for Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation CSIE
4. Being one of 15 units in Hoa Binh receiving the certificate of merit from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Hoa Binh province for their typical achievements in tourism service business in Hoa Binh province.
5. November 2020: Da Bia Community Tourism Site – one of the 04 CBT destinations of Da Bac CBT in Da Bac district, meets 4-star OCOP standards.

Motivation for social impact creation

As the director of Da Bac CBT Social Enterprise, I have developed business model, managed operations, built partnership with community, local authorities and tour operators which jointly create a better place for people to live and for people to visit. I also have built capacity for villagers, community groups to develop products and options that mutually provide experiences and learnings for visitors but also generate stable incomes for villagers in CBT villages. Managing staff, contracts, financial transaction to ensure a self-reliant business of the social enterprise is my daily role. However, sharing the value of CBT model and sustainable CBT products is also a key responsibility of mine to promote the model and replicate it in other locations in Vietnam.

Contributions to the SBC community

– Leed the social enterprise to become a self-reliant model and the CBT model was replicated in many provinces. – Develop more than ten CBT villages supported by Action on Poverty; The CBT model shaped by Da Bac CBT has been shared and replicated in many locations in Vietnam, including Son La, Dien Bien, Phu Tho, Lai Chau, and Soc Trang provinces. – Sign contracts with 22 travel agencies, directly establish 780 bookings with 11.728 tourists, generating approximately 11,5 billion dongs in revenue for social enterprise, and 8,8 billion dongs in revenue for local people from April 2017 to December 2022. – Support to create jobs and increase income for 195 members of 153 households in 4 CBT villages of Da Bac district. – Promote Da Bac CBT villages to over 3,200 people from different social media sources through posts, videos, livestreams, blogs, and international online newspapers.
