Bio

About

I am Edwing Lozano Lara, a civil engineer graduated from the Universidad Veracruzana. Since the beginning of my university journey, I have been interested in geotechnics, understanding the behaviors of soil under different variables and the various phenomena it presents. After graduating from university, my interest in geotechnics expanded as I became aware of its potential scope. My professional objective is to continue developing in engineering and further expanding my knowledge.

I consider myself a patient and resilient person, humble and responsible. I enjoy sharing the skills and knowledge that are part of me and that I have acquired over the years and through experience. Currently, I have had the opportunity to participate in the development of infrastructure projects, especially in the field of geotechnics. I am studying a master’s degree in Applied Engineering at the Universidad Veracruzana and have participated in various conferences organized by the SMIG (Sociedad Mexicana de Ingeniería Geotécnica).

Expanding the horizon of knowledge is a priority for me as an individual and as a professional. The mutual relationship with figures in the field and the society that is generated within it is something that motivates me to belong to the SBC community.

Education

In 2021, I graduated as a civil engineer from the Universidad Veracruzana. Additionally, I am currently studying and completing the degree in Geodetic Surveying Engineering, and concurrently pursuing a Maestría en Ingeniería Aplicada (MIA), all within the educational programs offered by the Universidad Veracruzana.

Significant achievements

Among my most significant achievements, I can mention that I am currently developing a highly interesting environmental impact project. This project is being undertaken as part of my Master’s thesis research, focusing on the contamination of aquifers and the infiltration of leachates through the soil mass. Additionally, I consider it an achievement to be a member of the SMIG (Sociedad Mexicana de Ingeniería Geotécnica) as a affiliated chapter member, serving as the president of said chapter. This also marks the distinction of being the first geotechnical chapter at the postgraduate level in Veracruz.

Certifications

Among the certificates I have acquired are one validating my knowledge in AutoCAD and another obtained by completing a course on the calculation of bearing capacity in deep foundations using SPT (Standard Penetration Test).

Business

Business

Looking for business partners, Open to work, Open to new collaborations

Current employment

Graduate student in "Master in Applied Engineering".

Expertise

Throughout the experience accumulated in these years I have learned to identify the different types of soil at a glance to give an early opinion of the type of soil, I also know the phenomena and behaviors that the soil presents before different actions such as settlements caused by the load or overload of structures, soil liquefaction caused by the intermittent flow of water through the porous connections of the soil, etc.

Motivation for social impact creation

My main motivation is the professional collaboration and the positive contribution to the environment, to generate a small but significant change that has an impact on people who have the same vision as me is what makes me continue researching and working.

Contributions to the SBC community

What I offer to the SBC community is professional collaboration in infrastructure projects of all types involving geotechnical branch.

Looking for collaborators

Research interests

I am interested in research that is innovative and efficient, that considers soil as a determining factor in research or as a variable factor to address new approaches to geotechnics, as well as its applications in multidisciplinary research.

Current research projects

I am currently involved in two research projects, one personal and the other in collaboration with other researchers who are part of my research nucleus. The project that I am developing individually is about the effect of leachate infiltration through the soil mass until its contact with the groundwater table, the objective of this research is to find a way to mitigate these effects using soil as the main solution agent. The project that I am developing in collaboration with other researchers is about the problem that we have with water in Mexico, especially in static bodies of water such as lakes and lagoons, this project details the possible causes of this problem and the possible solutions that can be applied for the restoration of these bodies of water.

Selected publications

The publication I have generated is an article titled “Análisis y zonificaciones de los tipos de suelo en el estado de Veracruz” for the journal of the SMIG (Sociedad Mexicana de Ingenierpia Geotécnica). It was prepared in collaboration with three other researchers in the year 2023.
