Motivation for social impact creation

Pushing for my own creative agendas, I am the Operations Director for Repamana. We were able to partner with the Female Jail of Quezon City.. Their jail houses around 600 inmates, 200 of which are trained in different fashion crafts. I have been closely working with them for several months on product development using reclaimed materials. The end product is truly made beautiful by their skills and stories. Getting to know them, I witnessed how poverty pushed them to make certain choices. I just knew the potential impact of our work and how it can change their lives because I realized how talented and efficient they are as a workforce. As a creative fashion social entrepreneur that has worked with a variety of materials and communities, from fabric scraps, food and floral waste and now, women prisoners, I am here to further develop our enterprises and our creative communities to believe in Community, Creativity, Circularity and Chances… second chances.

Research interests

Ten million tonnes of bedsheets in the United States alone end up in landfills annually. The hospitality industry contributes significantly to this textile waste problem due to the high standards upheld by guests and the industry, which requires textiles such as bedsheets to be in pristine condition. This linear consumption of bedsheets posed significant logistical hurdles for the hotel industry, leading to high storage and collection costs and numerous recycling barriers on top of the environmental effect of cotton production and consumption.

In response to this, my primary research focus is on the textile waste management, supply chain of the hotel industry in Metro Manila.
