Bio

About

I’m Nicolas Dufraisse Castro, and I have a multicultural and international vision that fuels my passion for entrepreneurship. I have a unique ability to turn my interests into profitable business ventures. As a beekeeper, vermicomposter, baker, and with studies in biology, I have always been interested in developing productive and profitable systems that actively benefit natural ecosystems.

My ventures are driven by my personal challenge to find ways to create sustainable business models that maximize environmental value while minimizing resource use. I believe in the power of socio-ecological synergies and their ability to foster a positive relationship between humans and the natural environment. By accepting our role as part of the ecosystem, I am always looking for ways to make a positive impact on the environment.

Early on, I realized that vermicomposting could become a game changer in conservation efforts, and I have since made it a central part of my ventures. In my free time, I enjoy playing chess and hiking, both of which give me a chance to connect with nature and further develop my passion for environmental conservation. In summary, I believe that social-ecological synergies hold the key to achieving ecological and social well-being for all.

Significant achievements

The entrepreneurship project ‘Estomagos del Amazonas’ was selected as semifinalist in the Despega Colombia competition 2022

Certifications

In 2021, I participated in the ‘Aceleración de Proyectos de Emprendimiento Universitario’ program organized by the Cámara de Comercio de Bogotá, which equipped me with the tools and resources to accelerate university entrepreneurship projects. Additionally, I obtained a certificate of attendance at the ’13° Encuentro RedBioLAC’ meeting, which focused on domestic biodigesters and their installation, operation, and maintenance. Furthermore, I have undertaken training in modern apiculture through a basic theoretical and practical course offered by Apiario El Pinar. These certifications have allowed me to develop my skills, gain valuable knowledge, and stay up-to-date with the latest trends in entrepreneurship and sustainable practices.

Motivation for social impact creation

Upon arriving in Colombia, I was instantly captivated by the stunning natural landscapes. However, it wasn't long until I was confronted with the devastating impact of human presence on these far-flung ecosystems. Unfortunately, the government's usual response has been to restrict access to natural parks or even displace local communities. Having seen the social complexity of the situation, in part because of the violence and the limited alternatives for survival for farming communities, I felt compelled to find solutions that could both economically benefit these remote communities while also preserving the natural environment.
