Target social issue

We are solving the problem of the lack of sex education among young people and its associated consequences worldwide. Lack of sex education refers to the insufficient or incomplete provision of information and guidance about sexuality, sexual health, and relationships in educational or social settings and can lead to negative consequences such as unplanned pregnancies, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and sexual violence/mental illnesses. In many societies, the topic of sex is still considered taboo, which often leads to misinformation and myths being passed down from generation to generation. This can result in teenagers and young adults being unable to make informed decisions about their sexual health and well-being. As part of our research in Germany, we conducted both qualitative interviews and a quantitative survey with 116 participants, asking them about their current level of knowledge. The result shows that 44.8% of the quiz participants, who were between 17 and 30 years old, answered the questions incorrectly and thus had a knowledge gap. Overall, the absence of comprehensive sex education can have severe consequences for individuals and communities/cultures/countries, highlighting the importance of promoting sexual health and well-being through education and support.

Update during Business Innovation Phase: We dove deep into the root cause of the problem and identified through expert interviews and survey data that schools fail to provide comprehensive sex education. Out of 460 teachers, 66% were not prepared to teach sex education in college. Which is no wonder, that the average grade 350 surveyed students gave their sex education classes is 3.7 (equals a D). Furthermore, it is too late to start sex education in adolescence. Specialist consultants emphasize it “should take place in elementary school already in an age-appropriate way because sexual abuse can already start there” (Interview with ProFamilia, 2023).

With Love Lab, we are empowering elementary school teachers with comprehensive quality sex education material through a user-friendly digital platform. Our mission is to provide high-quality, age-appropriate sex education to young children in a professional and caring environment, ensuring that they have access to accurate information and are better prepared for life. We vision To create a world where everyone has the knowledge and skills to make informed decisions about their bodies and relationships, leading to healthier and happier lives.

Overall, we strongly believe developing a digital platform for teachers has the potential to better prepare them to educate sexual health and well-being, thus empower individuals to make informed decisions and reduce the negative consequences associated with the lack of comprehensive sex education in this world.
