According to the World Health Organization (WHO), stomach
diseases, including peptic ulcer disease (PUD) and stomach cancer, remain significant global health concerns. In 2019, there were approximately 8.09 million prevalent cases of PUD worldwide, with an age-standardized prevalence rate of 99.40 per 100,000 population (BioMed Central). Additionally, WHO statistics indicate that stomach cancer is the fifth leading cause of cancer deaths globally, with around 970,000 new cases and 660,000 deaths reported in 2022 (BioMed Central).
These data highlight the ongoing global burden of stomach diseases and the necessity for enhanced preventive measures, early detection, and effective treatment strategies to address this critical health issue.
