Proposal

Project name: RE RE RE

Company name: The Little Swing

Presenter: Vũ Tam Hà

Project’s brief description: Making sustainable toys and more from scraps, wasted fabric collected from textile manufacturers in Vietnam, connecting handcraft communities across the country

Working language: English, Vietnamese,

UN goals:

Goal 8: Open job opportunities for handcraft communities in Vietnam who were left behind due to lack of work & the rise of mass produced products.

Goal 11: Offer an alternative means for textile & clothing manufacturers not only to dispose but to upcycle scraps, wasted fabrics. Offer an alternative & sustainable working environment for stay at home parents, retirees.

Goal 12: On the user end, encourage responsible consumption behaviors, starting from the root, children. On textile manufacturers & clothing manufactures end, propose feasible circular economy products.

The problem: Textile & clothing manufacturers produce a great amount of scraps and waste fabrics which are treated as hazardous, persistent environmental problems. Scraps & waste especially synthetic treatment often generate greenhouse effect, toxics chemical & other environmental complications

The social problem: In the age of fast fashion, textile consumption has changed for the worse, waste from end users have only risen.

Motivation: Time to go a different route! Instead of recycling raw materials, let’s upcycle the end products.

Solution idea: Our project RERERE which has been ongoing for the last one and half year is

  • To collect scraps & waste straight from the source, textile manufacturer, our partner hungyen knitting and dyeing co. ltd, of polyester & elastane which is used for manufacturing swimming suits,
  • To find the most feasible way & design to upcycle without any chemical treatment or processes,
  • To utilize and promote local hand craftsmanship for productions to minimize carbon footprint,
  • To offer 100% upcycled products to end users.

The above processes are feasible and applicable with other manufacturers. We have been approached by other companies but we would like to develop at a steady pace and more importantly, reach out & spread to end users.
