Climate change has been severely affecting the future and survival of the world. Since the 1980s, the following decade’s temperature has been always higher than the previous one, and the past decade 2011-2020 was recorded as the hottest on record. The consequences of global warming and increased CO2 emissions are negative impacts on human life and future. Not only does climate change raise temperatures but it also results in many dramatic consequences such as the reduced ecosystem diversity, the melting of ice, the warming and rising of sea level, and the extinction of species

Not only does climate change raise temperatures but it also results in many dramatic consequences such as the reduced ecosystem diversity, the melting of ice, the warming and rising of sea level, and the extinction of species. One of the leading factors contributing to the climate deterioration comes from the upheaval of deforestation in the last few years. Based on the statistics, it is apparent that forest coverage in Vietnam is only less than 40%. The surface area of the primary forest ecosystem is about 10%. The damaged forest area is estimated at more than 22,800 hectares, of which about 13,700 hectares were burned, the rest was due to illegal logging.

The problem of climate change and deforestation is located all over the world as this is the responsibility of everyone to maintain a sustainable and healthy world. However, the application of VerdeChain will be carried out within the territory of Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Vietnam has suffered from the consequences of deforestation over years and we’re working together with the firm belief of dealing with these problems. The Central Highland, the Southwest and the North Central of Vietnam – the most diverse and richest areas about vegetation, have been threatened by severe deforestation through many years and are seeking for sustainable protection.

People worldwide are parts of the big picture, we are all living with the consequences of climate change. Communities who are directly affected by climate change are farmers with arid lands, depleted water sources due to the impact of El Nino, fishermen with prolong dangerous fishing trips without catching enough fish or they can also be people living in areas where natural disasters often occur, such as people in the Central region of Vietnam – an area often subject to heavy rains and floods, causing heavy losses and loss of life.

Besides, influenced by the devastation of climate change, today generation, especially people living in the Mekong Delta, is witnessing their lands and houses swept away by landslides day by day; and future generation will be significantly forced to live under the cities without any green land, endure temperatures rising up to more than 40 degrees.

Climate change in general, and deforestation in particular, have had drastic impacts on the Earth across multiple dimensions. These phenomena not only cause environmental damages such as the sudden increase in temperatures, ozone layer depletion, floods, droughts, and rising sea levels, but also results in arduous recovery for Mother Earth.

Furthermore, climate change also affects human survival via its influences on food security. Noticeably, the demands for food supplies are continuously increasing whereas all the parameters relating to rainfall frequency, temperature, humidity and other weather conditions are causing less efficiency for people’s farming, ultimately causing the global food crisis that will affect the socio-economic welfare. Besides, the need for resources such as utilizing more electricity to satisfy the usage of air conditioning, or using more water for irrigation during dry seasons, also rises, adding to the faster depletion of resources than ever before and the advent of conflicts between nations in the struggle for more resources.

The problem of climate change has threatened human existence for hundreds of years since the beginning of the industrial revolution, causing the demand for natural resources to increase rapidly and surpass the degree to which humans can recover. The task of preventing climate change began hundreds of years ago. Not until the consequences of climate change have directly impacted human survival in recent years have we begun to take action. The Oxford English Dictionary chose “climate emergency” as the phrase of the year in 2019, demonstrating the urgency of this situation. According to “Save the children” statistics, around 240 climate-related events recorded in 2023, international disaster database EM-DAT recorded a 60% rise in the number of deaths from landslides, a 278% increase in deaths from wildfires and a 340 % increase in deaths from storms between 2022 and 2023, driven in large part by the devastating death toll in Libya from the floods that resulted from Storm Daniel in September. Extreme weather events are becoming more frequent and severe as a result of the climate crisis. It’s our responsibility to take action immediately since the negative impacts of climate changes have emerged with an unimaginable rate.

Verdechain proposes a Blockchain-based technology platform to connect planters and resource sponsors in Vietnam and other Asian countries with the mission of planting 1 million trees in 2026. Our platform will verify and record planting efforts using immutability and consensus mechanisms to boost transparency of reforestation activities.

Our solution will brings mutual benefits to both the planters and sponsors:

For planters: we will provide them with (1) Mini-sized management system (Mini ERP): helps afforestation organizations intelligently manage their resources as well as sponsored funds, assign tasks, monitor processes, and quickly set up reports in time & convenient thanks to end-to-end data connection from the planting point. The density of planted forests and the condition of plants under the influence of external factors will be analyzed and changed accordingly to ensure optimal afforestation productivity, helping plants grow in the best condition.

For sponsors: we assist them in strategizing & planning for corporate/organizational sustainable development projects, connecting them with suitable planters in our network. All project information will be updated in real time for them to monitor. In addition, we also help businesses/organizations have a very special way to spread positive values to their communities & customers to build engagement & participation of everyone in their work. afforestation in particular and sustainable development in general.

The health of our planet is paramount for the well-being of all living things. Climate change, deforestation, or even land degradation pose significant threats. Responding to these problematic issues, our aforementioned solutions are designed to directly address these challenges and contribute to the more positive environmental impacts. By empowering both planters and sponsors involved afforestation initiatives, we aim to create a win-win scenario for both parties while contributing to the following United Nations’ sustainable goals (SDGs):

Goal 13: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts to our environment

  • Reduced deforestation: by fostering afforestation efforts, our suggested solutions help to counteract deforestation – a primary contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. Increased tree cover leads to increased carbon sequestration, mitigating climate change.
  • Sustainable resource management: the mini-ERP system for planters encourages efficient resource allocation and planning within afforestation projects. This alleviates waste and guarantees the project to operate in an environmentally responsible manner.

Goal 15: Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.

  • Forest restoration: our solutions directly catalyze large-scale arboriculture initiatives, thereby augmenting sylvan cover and fostering enhanced biodiversity. This engenders the proliferation of salubrious ecosystems that can sustain a more extensive menagerie of flora and fauna.
  • Improved land management: the mini-ERP system’s robust data analytics functionalities facilitate the pinpointing of optimal locations for afforestation endeavors and the meticulous monitoring of plant vitality. This guarantees that these initiatives are precisely targeted and demonstrably efficacious, thereby maximizing their advantageous influence on terrestrial well-being.
